Everyday wonder · 10-minute practice
Look again at the ordinary
Let a familiar cup become something worth noticing.
You do not need a dramatic view to practice looking. A cup, a leaf, or a crumpled receipt has edges, shadows, and surprises. This is a noticing exercise; a recognizable drawing is optional.
A familiar object, paper, and a pencil.
Step 01
Choose something close
Set an ordinary object in front of you. Notice three details you would usually skip: a dent, an uneven edge, or the shape of its shadow.
Step 02
Follow the outline
Look back and forth between the object and paper as you draw its edge. Let the drawing be a little awkward. Avoid erasing during this first pass.
Step 03
Add one discovery
Choose one detail to give extra attention. Add its texture or shadow, then write a short sentence about what you noticed. Stop when your attention feels complete.
What changed when you spent a few minutes looking? Was there anything you had never noticed before?
Make it smaller
Skip the drawing and list three unexpected details about the object.
There is no required feeling at the end. If a prompt feels uncomfortable, pause, change it, or skip it.
