A color check-in for a busy mind

Give the feeling a color. It does not need a name yet.

Some days, asking “How do I feel?” is a bigger question than it sounds. Color offers a smaller place to begin. This exercise is an invitation to notice what is here, without needing to explain it or turn it into something beautiful.

What you will need
Paper and three colored pencils, pens, or paints.

Step 01

Choose without overthinking

Pick three colors that catch your eye today. They do not have to match. Forget what a color is supposed to mean; your blue might feel lively, quiet, or neither.

Step 02

Make room for each one

Give each color a patch of paper. Try a little pressure, then a little less. Let one patch be larger if that feels right. You are recording a moment, not making a personality test.

Step 03

Look, then add one mark

Pause and look at the page. Is there a place that needs space, a boundary, or a new color? Add just one mark. You can also choose to leave it as it is.

A moment to reflect

Which part of the page feels most like this moment? What would feel kind to do next?

Make it smaller

Only have one minute? Choose a single color and make a small patch on a scrap of paper.

There is no required feeling at the end. If a prompt feels uncomfortable, pause, change it, or skip it.
